Apply to become a Midwest LEADRS Fellow

Before beginning the application for Midwest LEADRS, please review all eligibility requirements, required application materials, and Fellow selection criteria.

Applicants must:

  • Be a PhD student, postdoctoral fellow, nurse scientist, early-career investigator, or a researcher in aligned disciplines (e.g., public health, social sciences)
  • Be engaged in or planning SDOH-related research
  • Commit to completing the full eight-month curriculum
  • Attend the four-day in-person SDOH Intensive

Applicants must submit:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • One- to two-page statement of research interests
  • Confirmation of availability for the Intensive
  • Contact information

Applications are reviewed holistically and assessed based on:

  • Alignment with SDOH research
  • Academic and methodological readiness
  • Commitment to community-engaged research
  • Potential for future research success

Institutional and Regional applicants are reviewed separately to ensure balanced cohorts.

  • Applications for the 2026 cohort are now open
  • Decisions will be sent by late April
  • The Midwest SDOH Intensive dates for Cohort 1 are August 10-13
Midwest LEADRS is funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (1R25NR021775) and the Indiana University School of Nursing. Travel and hotel accommodations are available for non-local participants.
