Our 17 credit-hour graduate certificate, Teaching in Nursing, is designed for nurses seeking academic teaching positions and those whose clinical roles include teaching and professional development. It is offered in an online format.

IU School of Nursing holds two Center of Excellence designations from NLN in Promoting the Pedagogical Expertise of Faculty (2017-2026) and in Advancing the Science of Nursing Education (2016-2026). We have an international reputation for developing and testing innovative pedagogies and delivering distance education courses to students and nurse educators throughout the world.

Certification

If you already hold an MSN degree in another specialty area, completion of the Teaching in Nursing graduate certificate program fulfills your educational eligibility requirements for the NLN Certification for Nurse Educators program. After successfully completing the certificate, you will be eligible to sit for the CNE exam.

Advancing Nursing Education	NURS-T601	4
This course utilizes guided experiences in teaching of nursing, including planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating classroom and clinical instruction with a mentor. Emphasis on learner development and socialization, learner diversity, and multicultural/global education guide the learning. The roles of nurse educator as leader, change agent and scholar are explored. 75 clinical hours.
Evaluation in Nursing	NURS-T618	3
This course focuses on the theoretical and empirical basis for assessment and evaluation in nursing education. Emphasis is placed on concepts, models, frameworks and strategies for applicability to nursing teaching and learning environments including classroom, on-line, laboratory/simulation, and clinical settings.

Curriculum in Nursing	NURS-T604	3
The focus of this course is on the process of curriculum and program development, implementation, revision and evaluation. Philosophical, social, economic, and professional issues that are relevant to nursing education curriculum are explored.
Nursing Education Practicum	NURS-T680	4
The student functions in an educator role in a clinical or academic setting by designing, implementing and evaluating lesson plans, modules, or courses. Through portfolio, students reflect on improving their role as a nurse educator. Learning experiences are negotiated to meet learning goals in a preceptor-supervised practicum of 150 hours. 150 clinical hours.

Computer Technologies for Nurse Educators	NURS-T620	3
This course focuses on knowledge and skills for technologies to support teaching-learning in nursing. Emphasis is placed on principles of distance learning, use of the internet, and integrating computer and other technologies into nursing education. Theoretical frameworks for guiding selection, use and integration of technologies in nursing education are discussed.
