The Pulse of IU Nursing

Nurses as Changemakers

In our spring issue, we feature members of the Indiana University School of Nursing community who have chosen the path of policy and advocacy. At a time when healthcare is rapidly evolving, the voices of nurses are needed at decision-making tables where laws and funding priorities are shaped.

Three of our students are headed to a policy conference in the nation’s capital to engage with lawmakers and learn how to advocate for meaningful change. A two-time alum serves as CEO of Indiana’s largest professional nursing association. And an endowment gift from a distinguished late faculty member continues to support our legislative curriculum and one of the school’s signature events, the Policy Academy—ensuring that future generations of nurses are prepared to lead.

We invite you to join us in navigating policy changes that will improve care for patients across this wonderful state and beyond.

Championing Nursing's Voice in Legislation

Three IU School of Nursing graduate students—Alta Skelton, Rachael Harless, and Laura Koke—have decided to expand their passion for policy and advocacy from the state to the federal level in hopes of helping patients and improving healthcare.
