Greg Carter, PhD, RN, AACRN, has been appointed associate dean for the Indiana University School of Nursing in Bloomington, effective March 1.
Carter assumes the role after serving as interim associate dean since June 2025. He previously served as the assistant dean of research for the IU School of Nursing core school.
“Through his successful service as interim associate dean and assistant dean for research, Dr. Carter has demonstrated his collaborative spirit, steady leadership, and unwavering support for faculty and staff,” said Dean Janet S. Carpenter, PhD, RN, FAAN. “We are proud to see him continue this important work as associate dean.”
Carter holds a PhD in Public Health and both an MSN and BSN from IU, as well as an ASN from Ivy Tech Community College. He is an affiliate faculty researcher with the Kinsey Institute and co-director of the Rural Center for AIDS and STD Prevention, and a board-certified Advanced HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (AACRN).
His research focuses on HIV prevention, harm reduction, and health care access, with leadership on multiple state and foundation grants. He is currently funded as a co-investigator on a NIH/NIDA grant focused on a multi-state, multi-phase project designed to transform methadone treatment for opioid use disorder.
Carter is also an award-winning educator, recognized with the IU Trustees Teaching Award and the Dr. James E. Mumford Excellence in Extraordinary Teaching Award, and has extensive experience mentoring undergraduate and doctoral students.
