The Indiana University School of Nursing has received a three-year grant from the Valinhos Foundation to grow its “HealthConnect” program. This initiative focuses on improving mental health education and training, helping more people across Indiana get the support they need.
Students, faculty, and staff at the school’s three core campus locations–Bloomington, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis–will receive training through the grant funding.
“The HealthConnect program shows our commitment to preparing nurses who provide great care that includes supporting mental wellness,” said Interim Dean Janet Carpenter. “With this generous grant, we can give students, faculty, and staff the skills they need to make a real difference in mental health.”
HealthConnect will focus on two key areas:
- Training for Faculty and Healthcare Leaders – The program will teach faculty, staff, and students about mental health, helping them better support people facing challenges.
- Mental Health First Aid & Suicide Prevention – HealthConnect will provide training to help identify and address mental health concerns before they become serious problems.
Through these efforts, the IU School of Nursing hopes to close gaps in mental health education and prepare nurses to offer compassionate, well-rounded care.
“The Valinhos Foundation is excited to support the IU School of Nursing’s work in promoting mental health awareness and care through HealthConnect,” said Julie Veldman Harris, executive director of the foundation. “This program will give nurses and healthcare workers the tools to truly impact the lives of those struggling with mental health issues.”
