Biography
Dr. Lanaé McAllister is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Indiana University School of Nursing with more than a decade of nursing and healthcare experience. Her background in medical-surgical nursing, leadership, and clinical practice informs her passion for preparing the next generation of nurses through engaging, student-centered education. Dr. McAllister teaches across a variety of undergraduate nursing courses, including medical-surgical nursing, fundamentals, health assessment, leadership, and capstone, while maintaining strong connections to clinical practice to enhance student learning. Committed to both nursing education and patient care, Dr. McAllister continues to practice as a bedside nurse at The Orthopedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network, allowing her to bring current clinical expertise, compassion for patient care, and real-world nursing experiences directly into the classroom.
Dr. McAllister is dedicated to bridging the gap between the classroom and the bedside by integrating real-world clinical experiences, evidence-based practice, and clinical judgment into her teaching. She utilizes a flipped classroom approach and innovative teaching strategies to actively engage students and support their growth into confident, compassionate nurses. Her scholarly interests include shared governance in nursing, simulation and escape rooms in nursing education, and strategies that enhance student engagement and critical thinking. Dr. McAllister has been nominated multiple times for the DAISY Award and was recognized as a 2023 Indiana Nurses Foundation Nurse of Influence nominee. She received the Extraordinary Nurse Educator DAISY Award in 2024 in recognition of her impact on nursing education and student success.
Outside of nursing and education, Dr. McAllister enjoys making memories with her family (especially when it involves anything Disney or travel related). She can often be found with a good book and a cup of coffee in hand, and she values staying active in her church and community.
