Training Opportunities
Mary Margaret Walther Program (MMWP)/The Behavioral Cooperative Oncolory Group (BCOG)
The MMWP/BCOG Research Fellowship Program is designed to provide promising novice behavioral scientists with the opportunity to be mentored in research-intensive settings toward the goal of developing careers in behavioral oncology. To that end, the predoctoral and postdoctoral training through the BCOG is viewed as a collaborative endeavor between the Affiliate Institution or faculty and the fellow. Therefore, the application must be completed by both the host and the fellowship applicant.

Training in Research for Behavioral Oncology and Cancer Control Program (R25)
The Training in Research for Behavioral Oncology and Cancer Control Program is funded through an R25 grant from the National Institutes of Health / National Cancer Institute. The goal of the R25 program is to train predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in multidisciplinary behavioral oncology research to help develop a new generation of researchers who can integrate basic, clinical, and behavioral sciences. The training program provides the didactic and research experiences necessary to enable trainees to establish successful postgraduate careers in behavioral oncology and cancer control research. Fellows will select a mentor in their primary program of interest and a secondary mentor in a different school/department.

Indiana University Training in Behavioral Nursing (T32)
Predoctoral and postdoctoral training fellowships are available in health behavior research through a T32 institutional research training grant from the National Institutes of Health / National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR). Health behavior research emphasized at our school focuses on behavioral factors that influence prevention, detection, and individual, family, and/or community response relative to chronic illness.
Chronic conditions studied by faculty include:
- Cancer
- Neurological disorders
- Diabetes
- Renal disease
- Congestive heart failure
Each fellow will be supervised by a senior faculty member and connected with the Center for Enhancing Quality of Life in Chronic Illness (CEQL).
The postdoctoral training program is a two-year plan of training that prepares the candidate to be an independent researcher. Fellows receive a stipend, travel and research funds, and mentoring. Selection criteria include:
- Quality of applicant’s academic record,
- Past research and publications,
- Commitment to independent research, and
- A match with research interests of faculty.
Start date is negotiable, and minority applicants are especially encouraged to apply.
