Theresa Tonade
Nigeria

Though she was nervous about starting clinicals, the reassurance Theresa received from her instructor gave her the courage to succeed. One memorable moment was taking care of a young woman who suffered from seizures. “I put myself in her position and took care of her like I would have taken care of myself,” she says. “You can’t go wrong with a patient if you believe in what you’re doing.”
The Center for Community and International Affairs supports and encourages nursing education and research that prepare future nursing professionals for effective civic engagement in a global society.
We also engage in initiatives—from our role as a World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Healthy Cities to our international partnerships with universities —that foster and promote innovative approaches to clinical education, service learning, and community-responsive research.
