Being a Preceptor in a Health Care Facility

Become a preceptor for new nurses, nurse graduates, and nursing students and other allied health professionals. Examine case studies to explore preceptor responsibilities and qualifications, critical and sentinel learning experiences, adult learning, various learning styles, clinical teaching, and evaluation strategies. This course is also applicable to allied health professionsals in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and respiratory therapy. This course is designed to be completed without instructor facilitation or discussion.
You will:
- Describe the responsibilities of the preceptor.
- Describe strategies to assist in learning in a clinical setting.
- Describe characteristics of an adult learner.
- Describe the evaluation process.
Required Computer Skills and Software
You should have basic computing skills including word processing and navigating the Web. For additional information, see the basic computer and software requirements.
How You will be Evaluated
You must complete the post-test with a score of 80 percent or greater, and the course evaluation, to receive the contact hours for the course. The contact hour record will be sent to you at the personal/professional e-mail account that you specify on your registration for this course.
