IU School of Nursing Soars to Top 30 in U.S. News and World Report’s Online Program Rankings

Indiana University School of Nursing continues to prove to be a leader in nursing education in Indiana, across the country and around the world. As part of U.S. News & World Report’s list of 2022 Best Online Master’s in Nursing Programs, released on January 25, IU School of Nursing soared into the Top 30 overall and remains the only nursing school in Indiana to be ranked for specialties.

IU School of Nursing ranks No. 26 among the 194 schools with eligible online master’s programs. The ranking is an advancement of more than 20 positions after the program ranked in the Top 50 (No. 49) on the 2021 list.

Additionally, IU School of Nursing continues to hold the distinction of being the only nursing school in Indiana to be ranked for a specialty. The school offers nine options within its MSN program, with the nursing education and nursing administration (nursing leadership in health systems) tracks available online. U.S. News & World Report ranks both options in the Top 20, with nursing education coming in at No. 9 and nursing administration listed at No. 17.

Robin Newhouse, dean of Indiana University School of Nursing, says the rankings demonstrate the school’s commitment to delivering high quality, world-class education programs for nurses seeking degrees online. “Advanced practice nurses – nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists – have a central role to play in providing patients with better quality healthcare that is more accessible. The pressing gap in healthcare across settings will shrink with a broader distribution of nurses across the nation; the nation will then meet the goals for high quality care at a lower cost. As the pandemic continues to take its toll, the need for nurses at the baccalaureate and advanced practice levels continues to increase. Preparing nurses to practice to the full extent of their roles is essential and important work, and we are honored to receive this distinguished recognition to be one of the best in the country.”

U.S News & World Report’s Best Online Programs rankings only include programs that are designed to be administered online. The rankings do not evaluate schools or programs that are temporarily virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic.
