IUSON BL’s Pei-Shiun Chang is fast becoming a nationally recognized expert on the beneficial effects of Qigong exercise. Qigong (pronounced “chi gong”) is an ancient form of traditional Chinese medicine & exercise. Pei’s paper analyzed the results from 14 Qigong-related randomized controlled trials of 1,282 older adults suffering from depression, frailty, or chronic illness. Pei’s analysis showed that Qigong helped improve older adults’ physical ability and may have positive effects on depression, balance, and the ability to perform everyday activities. Her analysis also included a recommendation for additional controlled studies to further document the benefits of Qigong exercise.
