Biography

Dr. Gates is a full-time faculty member at Indiana University School of Nursing in Bloomington, Indiana, where she teaches mental health, fundamentals, and pathopharmacology to undergraduate nursing students. Dr. Gates serves as the clinical site coordinator for the School of Nursing, provides course coordination for the psychiatric mental health courses and serves as chair-elect of the Bylaws Committee. Her clinical expertise is in adult psychiatric nursing; she has practiced in both outpatient and inpatient mental health settings. Dr. Gates collaborated with the IU School of Social Work to develop two interprofessional simulations focusing on addictions and domestic abuse. Her dissertation was on faculty perceptions of efforts to promote diversity. Her areas of interest include diversity in nursing education, interprofessional education, and addictions.
