Writing for Publication in the Health Sciences
2 day workshop will be held May 13-14, 2021, 9:00am-4:00pm ET via Zoom. Practicum option continues May 15-June 22. Registration now open- see bottom of page for fees & registration information!
2 Options Available:
Option 1: Continuing Education Intensive Workshop: Thursday and Friday May 13 -14, 2021, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM ET (via Zoom)
Option 2: Continuing Education Workshop with Practicum: May 13-14, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM ET. Practicum seminars (required): May 20, June 3, June 17 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET(via Zoom), plus required writing assignments and class activities.
Workshop: This 2 day intensive workshop introduces participants to preparing a manuscript for publication of research or other scholarly work such as quality assurance initiatives, evidence-based projects, and program evaluations. Content is organized to take participants through the process of journal selection, manuscript preparation, and submission. Contemporary issues in publishing, and publication ethics are discussed.
Practicum Option: The practicum option offers participants additional guidance in the development of a manuscript. Three seminars across 6 weeks provide participants with structured feedback, peer review, and opportunities to discuss challenges in manuscript preparation. Online discussion forums will be available, and participants are expected to complete weekly writing assignments throughout the 6 week period. Practicum participants must submit an interest form detailing their project status prior to registration (see pre-requisite section below).
Audience: The program is applicable to faculty, clinicians, and students in health sciences.
Pre-Requisites: All participants are encouraged to have a tentative title and brief outline of a proposed manuscript prepared prior to the course. Participants choosing the Practicum option are required to have a tentative title and brief outline prior to the course and must submit an interest form prior to registration to be considered for this option. No book is required for this program. Three books are suggested below; however, there are many books available on writing for publication. Participants interested in a book may select one that best meets their needs.

Faculty for the course is Janet S. Fulton, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, ANEF, FCNS, FAAN. Dr. Fulton is the Centennial Endowed Professor for Innovation in Nursing Education at the Indiana University School of Nursing. Since 2002 she has served as editor of Clinical Nurse Specialist: The Journal for Advanced Nursing Practice, a peer-reviewed journal published by Lippincott and indexed PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Science Citation Index, and others. She has multiple publications in professional journals and has published textbooks in multiple editions. Two books were awarded the prestigious American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award.

Attendance at all of the institute sessions and the completion of the workshop evaluation is required.

This workshop is subject to cancellation if minimum participation requirements are not met by April 30, 2021.
