The Nurse Aide Program Director and Instructor Training Seminar (NAPDITS), is a train-the-trainer program for  both program directors and program instructors of the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)  Program in the state of Indiana.  The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) Director Program is a train-the-trainer program for QMA program directors in the state of Indiana. During the seminar, you will focus on the concepts essential to teaching adults as well as techniques for preparing and teaching nurse aides in classroom and clinical settings. You will develop a program of learning according to established criteria.   

Please visit the State Department of Health website for information about eligibility and qualifications to serve as instructors or program directors in either program. Attendance at this training does not automatically qualify an individual to serve in these roles.

Any questions about the qualifications required to serve as program director (RN) or designated instructor (RN or LPN) should be directed to the Indiana State Department of Health contacts listed on their website.

Seminar Format

This seminar is offered in two parts. Both parts are required to successfully complete the training.

  • Part 1 is a one-day, in-person training via Zoom on the day listed on the registration page.
  • Part 2 is an online self study course that will take an average computer user about 3-4  hours to complete. Learners will have approximately 10 days to complete the online self study requirement. 

Registration for the program is limited. Advance registration is required. Registration close dates are listed in the "When" section below, and occur a few days prior to the activity date to ensure all participants receive the appropriate communications and information prior to the workshop. 

Participants are responsible for printing all handouts, which are e-mailed to the e-mail address used in registration a few days prior to the workshop.  If someone else registers you and does not enter your e-mail address, they will receive all communications and are responsible for forwarding them. 

Important Note: All handouts are sent via email the week prior to the live workshop to be printed or saved for use on a device/laptop during the workshop. Participants must print handouts ahead if they desire hard copies- no handouts are provided.

 

***AUGUST 24 Registrants:  Please note that all registrants who registered by 8/19/21 have been emailed the Zoom information and handouts for the August 24 workshop. .  If you have not seen this email, be sure to search the email used for registration for cenurse@iu.edu as they may have ended up in a spam or other inbox.  

Those who register on 8/20/21 or later will receive the information no later than Monday August 23, as we are able to send it.

  • When

    All sessions include 2 required parts: a live session (held via Zoom) on dates listed below, in addition to an online assignment found in our learning management system, Canvas, which is completed by each participant by an assigned due date with a few weeks of the Zoom session.

    Nurse Aide Program Director and Instructor Training ONLY:

    • February 9, 2021 (registration will close Feb. 8)
    • June 2, 2021 (registration will close June 1)
    • November 17, 2021 (registration will close Nov. 16)
    Nurse Aide Program Director/Instructor and QMA Director COMBINED training:
    • April 13, 2021 (registration will close April 12)
    • August 24, 2021 (registration will close Aug. 23)

    Please note: we reserve the right to cancel the in-person session in the case of inclement weather or any other reason deemed critical. If an in-person session is canceled, the online portion will still take place, and we will make every effort to reschedule the in-person session as soon as possible.  We will not reimburse any travel or other related costs due to cancellations. 

     

    Online assignment requirement:  

    The online course assignment is generally due about 10 days after the in-person session, but it varies from session to session. The due date will be communicated to the participants via e-mail as well as in the online course site when they are given access. Participants must follow the instructions in the confirmation e-mail for creating a guest account prior to the session in order to be added to the online course site. Participants will have access to the online course for the full time period between the in-person session and the due date. No due date extensions are given for this activity.

    Other notes about Zoom sessions:

    • You must log in and be present for the entire session to receive credit for attending.
    • We cannot provide any technical assistance to individuals having connection, audio, or other problems during this workshop.
    • All participants' video & audio will be muted, but Q&A will be available via a typed question submission process.
    • If there are problems immediately prior to or during the session, we will communicate with you using the email that is on record for registration, so please be sure you use an email that you can access at that time if needed 

     

  • Where

    All sessions in 2021 will be held via Zoom. Access information will be sent at the end of the week prior to the workshop date. Make sure to test your computer for Zoom prior to registering/attending—see Registration area for instructions.

    Online assignment will be completed via Canvas, the IU Learning Management System. Registrants will receive further instructions about Canvas access. 

     

    Day of registrations are not accepted.

     

  • Fees

     

    Nurse Aide Program Director and Instructor Training sessions: $299

    Nurse Aide & QMA Director combined training sessions*: $399

    *For the COMBINED training sessions- A discounted rate & online assignment exemption permitted only for those who have completed the nurse aide instructor training since 2013 and would like to participate in the QMA director training. To receive the discounted rate of $199 for exempt individuals, please email cenurse@iu.edu with the MONTH and YEAR you attended the nurse aide instructor training to receive the promo code. Refunds will NOT be provided if you register without requesting the promo code first.

    Beginning the day after the in-person session you will participate in an online adult learning concepts course via the learning management system, Canvas. You will have about two weeks to complete the course, submit the assignment, and complete the course evaluation.
