Identification and Personal Data
Please make sure your student identification and personal data—from contact information to e-mail accounts—is up-to-date each semester.
- JagTag
- Maintain personal identification information
- Verify university ID
- Network ID and passphrase
- E-mail accounts
JagTag
In addition to serving as your IUPUI identification card, the JagTag allows you to:
- obtain walk-in advising through University College;
- print from university printers;
- check out books from the library;
- use the copy machine; and
- make use of other campus resources, such as vending machines.
Please note: All computer labs on the IUPUI campus require you to have a JagTag with sufficient available funds in order to print. Black-and-white printing costs .04¢ per side, and color printing costs $1 per side. Printing fees will be deducted automatically from the balance on your JagTag. Find out how you can deposit funds on your JagTag.
To obtain your JagTag, go to the first floor of the Union Building or to the University College Student Center. Visit the JagTag Web site for more information.
Maintain Personal Identification Information
It is your responsibility to ensure that your contact information is accurate and current at all times so you can receive important information, such as course schedules and registration appointment times.
To update personal information, as well as to be informed of university privacy policies, visit the Office of the Registrar’s Student Identification page.
If you’ve been out of school for over a year, please call the registrar at (317) 274-1512 to update your file.
Verify University ID
Students are assigned a personal student identification number as part of the admission process. Use these directions to find your university ID through OneStart.
Network ID and Passphrase
Your Network ID is an essential part of life as an IUPUI student. You’ll need your Network ID and passphrase to:
- Send and receive e-mail through your university e-mail account;
- Login to university computers, Oncourse, and OneStart;
- Access the IUPUI modem pool for dial-up access; and
- Maintain your accounts (resetting your password, for example).
To create your first IU computing accounts and activate your Network ID, follow the “How do I get my first computing accounts at IU?” instructions.
If you are unsure which computing accounts you own, you can verify your accounts by following the “How can I find out which UITS computing accounts I have?” instructions. If you have any more questions about your Network ID, please review “What is an IU Network ID?”.
Remember your passphrase! You’ll need it each time you login to Oncourse, OneStart, and many other university services. As of October 2006, all new users and other users who choose to change their passwords must conform to the new guidelines for passphrases. You can learn more by reading about passwords and passphrases.
Maintain your password/passphrase
When you first activated your Network ID, you chose a password that followed security guidelines. Security guidelines indicate that it is important that you periodically change your password in order to preserve a high level of security; when you do so, you will be required to choose a new passphrase that provides for a more secure computing environment. Go to the Passphrase Maintenance page to do this. You will need to enter your Network ID, current password, and a new passphrase. Make sure you read through the guidelines for choosing a secure passphrase.
Reset a forgotten password/passphrase
If you previously activated your Network ID, but no longer remember the password or passphrase, bring a photo ID to the computer lab in NU 342. Kathleen Rieman will assist you in choosing your new passphrase.
Students who are enrolled in Web-based courses and do not live in the Indianapolis area and for whom coming to campus is an impossibility may use the IT Accounts Administration Passphrase Change Form to request a password/passphrase reset. The reset passphrase will be mailed (U.S. Postal mail) to the address you specify on the form. Therefore, you should allow sufficient time to receive the passphrase. Those needing immediate password/passphrase resets must be on campus and present a photo ID.
E-mail Accounts
If you prefer to use an e-mail account other than your IUPUI Cyrus Webmail account, you must forward your IUPUI e-mail to the preferred account; official university correspondence will be sent to your university-issued e-mail account only.
It is your responsibility to ensure that e-mail sent to your IUPUI e-mail account is correctly forwarded to the e-mail account that you read on a regular basis so that you can receive important information.
To forward Cyrus mail to another e-mail provider, follow the "In Cyrus mail, how do I set up or remove forwarding?" instructions. You are strongly encouraged to choose the option to keep a copy of your e-mail in your account so that in the event you mistype the e-mail address to forward to or for other reasons can no longer access that account, you may still access university-related messages directly through your Cyrus Webmail account.
Please note: If you change e-mail service providers, you must change the forwarding order you have in place on your account.
Transfer e-mail to IUPUI from another IU campus
Students transferring to the School of Nursing on the IUPUI campus from other Indiana University campuses must create an e-mail account for IUPUI. Follow the instructions listed above for activating a Network ID.
