Computing Recommendations and Requirements
Supported Operating Systems
- Windows XP and Vista
- Mac OS X version 10.3
- The use of older versions of Windows and Mac operating systems is strongly discouraged for security reasons.
Software Compatibility
- To access many university resources, including Oncourse CL, you should use one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 7.0 and newer; Firefox 2.0 and newer
- To share documents (such as PowerPoint presentations or Word documents) with those who may not yet be using Office 2007, choose Save As... and save your document in the 97-2003 document format.
Browser Settings
In order to access Oncourse CL, your browser must have both cookies and Javascript enabled, which are default settings in the browsers.
Monitor Settings
The monitor screen resolution for optimal use in Oncourse CL is 1024 x 768.
Browser Plug-ins
Plugins are software components that are installed within the browsers themselves to enable richer Web experiences. The plug-ins listed below are the more common ones used by Web sites. Most browers already have these installed. Visit the Web site by clicking the name of the application in the list below.

Purchasing Software and Hardware
Students admitted to the university and possessing a valid university Network ID may download or purchase software at great discounts:
- Download computing applications free of charge from IUware after logging in with your university Network ID.
- Purchase software through the Indiana University Bookstore.
- Order IUware software via mail-in order from the IUWare Online Off Campus Ordering Web site, if you are not able to visit a bookstore in person.
