Indiana University School of Nursing Awards

Jacqueline Beretta Dwyer Award
Presented in memory of Jacqueline Beretta Dwyer who served as Nurse/Manager of the Family Practice Center, Department of Family Medicine, Indiana University School of Medicine, from 1979 - 1984.  This award is given annually to the junior nursing student who best exemplifies the many attributes of Jackie Beretta Dwyer.

Ethel McCaffrey Award 
Presented to a Baccalaureate graduate in recognition of service to the School of Nursing, professional commitment, and community involvement.

 

Jessica Furstenberg

LaVern V. Sutton Award
This award was established in honor of LaVern V. Sutton for her outstanding accomplishments as Minority and Foreign Student Advisor in the School of Nursing from 1985 until 1995. The purpose of the award is to support leadership potential in students of color in order that nursing can increase diversity in our nursing mentors, and thus provide appropriate care to an increasingly diverse population.

Presented to students with the highest GPA’s in both associate and baccalaureate programs on all eight campus.

Martel Plummer Leadership Award
Presented to a graduating BSN student who have achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA and who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in an elected office in the IU School of Nursing or , elsewhere on the IUPUI campus, scholarly research work or conference presentation at the student level, and/or work or service in the community related to nursing or health.

Dotaline E. Allen RN-BSN Award
Presented by the Indiana University School of Nursing Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Dotaline E. Allen, Director of the Division of Nursing Education, 1950 - 1965, to a full-time Registered Nurse senior in the Baccalaureate Program.

Presented by the Indiana University School of Nursing Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Dotaline E. Allen, Director of the Division of Nursing Education, 1950-1965, to a student in the Master's Program in recognition of academic excellence, maturity, and potential in nursing.

Dorcas Rock Brewer Award
Presented by the Indiana University School of Nursing Alumni Association in honor of Dorcas Rock Brewer, Director of Counseling and Student
Activities 1952 - 1962. This award is presented to a senior in the
Baccalaureate program who has a minimum grade point average of 2.5, participates in the activities of the school, and assumes leadership and membership roles.

Emily Holmquist Award
Presented by the Indiana University School of Nursing Alumni Association in honor of Emily Holmquist who served as Dean of the School of Nursing 1957 - 1973. The award was initiated in 1983 to honor the tenth anniversary of her retirement. The award is given annually to a doctoral student who plans a career in nursing education and academic practice field and/or nursing research.

Indiana University School of Nursing Departmental Awards

Dart-Opie Award for Clinical Excellence in Care of the Mentally Ill
This award is to acknowledge the outstanding graduate work by an RN-MSN student who has care of the mentally ill as a primary focus. The award is to be granted upon completion of the student’s graduate education (MSN). The student chosen must have provided a significant contribution to the mental health community or the school of nursing and have at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Lillian Wald Award
Award given for senior baccalaureate student in recognition of exceptional clinical performance reflective of the spirit of Lillian Wald’s legacy.

Lee D. Fuller Award for Clinical Excellence in Care of the Mentally Ill
This award is given to a doctoral student in psychiatric mental health nursing for the proposal stage of the dissertation to help fund research .

Dayhoff-Lyon Outstanding Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
Student Award

This award is to recognize a master nurse who demonstrates excellence in the application of science to the promotion and maintenance of wellness and prevention or resolution of illness through nursing therapeutics.

Suzy Rader Award
This award was established in the memory of Suzy Rader at the request of her classmates. Each year one of the graduating adult nurse practitioner students is selected by faculty to receive the award which is based on dedication to nursing, colleagues and family.

Indiana University School of Nursing Honors Nursing Program

  The School of Nursing Honors Program is designed to challenge motivated students who are interested in developing skills in the areas of knowledge generation, knowledge utilization, and knowledge dissemination. This is accomplished through student involvement in faculty research projects, collaborative mentor partnerships with faculty and encouragement for consideration of graduate study.
