Four IU School of Nursing graduate students recognized with Elite 50 Award

This spring IUPUI began a new initiative to recognize outstanding academic achievement among graduate and professional students. It was modeled after the Top 100 Outstanding Students recognition for undergraduates and celebrates academic achievement along with character and service. Meet the four students from IU School of Nursing (IUSON) who were part of this inaugural group of fifty outstanding scholars.

Esther was also chosen as the top student from IUSON. She successfully defended her PhD dissertation this May.

“To be selected to receive the Elite 50 Award is an honor.  I'm humbled and grateful that others recognized my hard work and sacrifice to improve the Indianapolis and IUSON communities.  Over the course of my life, many people have served as role models for me, as well as sacrificed their time and effort for my personal and professional growth.  It is a necessity for me to pay forward the kindness that has been bestowed upon me by mentoring and giving to others.  I'm grateful for the award because it is a physical manifestation of my passion for service and mentorship.”

The receipt of this award inspires me to continue to work towards advancing the science and practice of nursing. I am honored to share this award with the other PhD student recipients from the IUSON.”

“I am honored to have been selected as one of IUPUI’s elite 50 graduate students. The criteria for the Elite 50 Award included activities outside of the traditional academic classroom including accolades unrelated to coursework G.P.A, like volunteer experiences and civic engagement. For the first time in my academic career I was able to demonstrate who I am as a whole person (mother, researcher, volunteer) and not receive merit based solely on G.P.A. These additional criteria embody the mission of IUPUI, which is to advance the state of Indiana and the intellectual growth of its citizens to the highest levels nationally and internationally through research and creative activity, teaching and learning, and civic engagement.”
