Janet S. Fulton, PhD, RN, and Brenda L. Lyon, DNS, RN, along with Kelly A. Goudreau of the VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics, White City, Oregon won first place for the #1 American Journal of Nurses (AJN) book of the year, “Foundations of Clinical Nurse Specialist Practice, Second Edition.” The acclaimed text is the only comprehensive textbook for Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) to be published since the late 1990’s. “Practices change and we wanted to capture the innovative elements in a book for practicing CNS to have that was focused on direct patient care,” said Dr. Fulton. Published in 2014, following the publishing of the first edition in 2010, this text focuses on diagnosing and treating patients using contemporary practices. “Not only is this book used as a textbook for nursing students, we also hope that it will be used as a reference for practicing nurses,” said Dr. Lyon. As well as being nominated as the #1 AJN book of the year, “Foundations of Clinical Nurse Specialist Practice, Second Edition,” also received a 5-star rating from Doody’s Review in the category of Advanced Practice Nursing. “It was thrilling to hear all of the achievements our book has received, and hope that it will continue to educate future nurses in Clinical Nurse Specialty,” said Dr. Fulton.
