Collaborative Educational Initiatives

Educating nurses to function competently in a global society is one of our major objectives. Increased world travel, immigration, and technological change demand that we be responsive to globalization through our curriculum and research.

Our ongoing relationships with internationally-located nursing programs support this effort. Through partnerships with universities from around the world, we participate in short-term nurse scholar exchanges that regularly involve not only bringing international students and faculty to Indiana, but also give our faculty and students a chance to go abroad to teach and learn.

Current partner universities include:

Examples of recent international interactions with partners include professors Mary Fisher and Rebecca Sloan’s teaching and research consultation in Bangkok, Thailand, and professors Susan Moore and Prudence Twigg’s workshop in Monterrey, Mexico.

Students may arrange to accompany faculty during such exchanges through independent study. Additionally, we warmly accept international students for study in our degree programs and scholars for brief periods of concentrated study with identified faculty advisors.

Study Abroad Opportunities

Our study abroad opportunities for nursing students vary, and the availability of nursing-focused experiences is dependent on faculty interest. Please contact the Center for Community and International Affairs or visit the IUPUI Office of International Affairs for more information and a current listing.

Two popular study abroad experience for nursing students are our spring break service-learning program in Canali, Mexico, and our summer language emersion and service-learning program  in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
