Name Description
40th Anniversary Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Fellowship

Created in 2015, this fellowship commemorates the the 40th Anniversary of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at the school.  The fellowship supports graduate students enrolled in that program.

  • Graduate student enrolled in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at IUPUI
  • Preference to student(s) who express a strong commitment to working in primary care

Betsy & James U Guthrie, MD Scholarship in Honor of the IU School of Nursing Class of 1949

Class of 1949 alumna Betsy Guthrie created this scholarship to honor not only her late husband, but also her beloved classmates who have also contributed through their class treasury as well as with individual gifts.

Criteria:

Beverly Ross for Riley Nurses (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 2000 by Beverly Ross after 31 years of service to the IU School of Nursing to honor and thank the many nurses at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children who have selflessly shared their time and expertise with the students

Criteria:

  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Graduate nursing student in MSN or undergraduate student enrolled in RN to BSN
  • Enrolled in RN to MSN option
  • Currently employed at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children
  • Applicant must provide employment verification from Riley Hospital. This can be in the form of a memo on Riley or IU Health letterhead with your supervisor's signature and phone number
  • Essay should indicate how one contributed significantly to the education of undergraduate nursing students
  • Is recognized by colleagues as an excellent nurse
  • Financial need is not a criterion for selection

Additional Essay Required: How long have you been employed at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children? How have you contributed, and how will you continue to contribute to the education of undergraduate nursing students? Applicant must provide written proof of employment from James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children. This can be in the form of a memo with Riley letterhead, signed by your immediate supervisor.


Carl Malcom Sr Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2012 by a bequest by Michael Malcom Hoback

Criteria: 

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing student
  • Be a student from Lawrence Central High School
  • GPA of 3.0 or greater while in nursing school
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Have other activities outside of academic studies; i.e. sports, band, work, etc.

Carole Ritchie

Created by the donor to honor her life's work as a pediatric nurse in Lebanon, Indiana, and to assist other nurses who wish to improve the health and welfare of children.

Criteria:

  • Graduate nursing student
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Interest in heath and the welfare of children and the families that care for them
  • Preference to students who demonstrate financial need

Charles E. & Thelma Walters (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Thelma, a graduate of the School of Nursing Class of 1938, through a bequest established scholarships at both the IU School of Nursing and the IU School of Medicine in honor of her husband, Charles E. Walters, MD, a graduate of the School of Medicine, Class of 1937. The Scholarship is to assist nursing students who are graduate of a high school in Indiana.

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing student

  • High school graduates within the state of Indiana

Cheryl A. Bean Graduate Nursing Scholarship

In tribute to Dr. Bean's dedication to the nursing profession, her students, and the IU School of Nursing where she served as a faculty member this scholarship was created in Dr. Bean's memory by her loving sister and brother-in-law.

Criteria:

  • Graduate nursing student
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Must have obtained baccalaureate nursing degree from the school at the IUPUI campus
  • 3.0 GPA or higher on 4.0 scale
  • Must demonstrates financial need
  • United States citizen
  • Preference to students who plan to become nursing faculty memebers who will teach nursing students

Class of 1963 (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

This scholarship was created to commemorate IUSON Class of 1963's 50th reunion. The scholarship is for IUPUI nursing students from Indiana who demonstrate financial need and who are currently involved in clinical coursework.

Criteria:

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing student
  • IUPUI Campus
  • State of Indiana resident
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must have reached a point in education that student is working with patients

Class of 1966 

The Class of 1966 Scholarship in Nursing Education was established to commemorate their 50th reunion in 2016. The scholarship is for students enrolled in the IUPUI campus nursing graduate program.

  • Graduate student

  • GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • A passion for teaching, and histopy of outanding community service

Dagna Simpson (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

This scholarship was established in 2004 by an estate gift from Dagna Simpson, PhD, whose career was in teaching English, but who believed strongly in education and wished to make a difference at a time of nursing shortage.

Diane Groff

Established in 2000, by the family and friends of Diane Groff

Diane McCabe (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established by Diane's family and friends in her memory in celebration of her excellence in clinical nursing, her dedication to the nursing profession and her tireless advocacy for women's health.

Criteria:

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing Student
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • State of Indiana resident
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference to recipients displaying highest character
  • Be non-traditional nurse returning to further his/her education
  • Employed with Indiana University Health; applicant must provide employment verification

Additional Essay Required: State your desire to improve women's health care through clinical excellence and community advocacy. Applicant must provide employment verification from Indiana University Health. This can be in the form of a memo on Indiana University Health letterhead with your supervisor's signature & phone number.


Dotaline Allen Scholarship (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1966 by various donors in honor of Dr. Dotaline E. Allen, Director of the Division of Nursing Education at Indiana University from 1950 to 1965.

Florence Nightingale Scholarship

Originally established in 1960 from the Nurses' Alumnae Association Loan Fund, this has become the primary scholarship fund benefiting students at the Indiana University School of Nursing.

Frances G. Lehmann

Established in 1999 by Clarence Walton in honor of his wife Frances Lehman. Walton says she "exemplified the caring and compassionate values of nursing, and was committed to the profession of nursing and excellence in the quality of care."

Criteria:

  • RN to BSN or RN to MSN, or other master's degree program 
  • Students attending the IUSON
  • Record of community service
  • Is a non-tradtional student
  • Preference to students intending to work in the mental health field
  • Must be an RN
  • Any IU campus

Frances Thompson Cole

Created to honor the memory of Frances Thompson Cole by her granddaughter, Debbie Grew, who works with graduate students at the School of Nursing and sees firsthand the financial need of so many students.

  • Recipients will be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student

Frank and Robin Newhouse Scholarship (Available to PhD Students only)

Established in 2015, her first year as Dean of the School of Nursing, Dean Robin Newhouse and her husband, Frank, established this scholarship for PhD students on the IUPUI Campus whose research focus is patient-centered health outcomes or health service research.

Criteria:

  • Graduate nursing students in PhD program
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Student will be involved in patient-centered outcomes research or patient outcome focused health services research
  • Scholarship is renewable

Garnet Keck Benzel (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1986 by Garnet Keck Benzel a graduate of the IU School of Nursing in 1930.

Georgia Belle Nyland (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1991 by Georgia Belle Nyland, a graduate of IU School of Nursing in 1942.

  • 1st preference to resident of Fulton County
  • 2nd preference to resident of counties contiguous to Fulton County
  • 3rd preference to resident of Northern Indiana

Howard Keach (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1977 by an estate gift from Hilda H. Keach in memory of her husband Howard L. Keach.

Irene and Nathaniel Aycock

Established in 2000 through a gift from the Irene R. and Nathaniel M. Aycock Foundation, directed by Trustee Sally Reichert Tate (BSN '63) in memory of her Aunt Irene Reichert Aycock, to support talented nurses who merit recognition.

Criteria:

  • Doctoral nursing students
  • Preference to students enrolled in BSN to PhD program 
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Obtained BSN from IUPUI campus

Jessie Cross (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1983 by Jessie I. Cross, a graduate of the IU School of Nursing in 1942.

Criteria:

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing student

  • Completed 1 full year at School of Nursing
  • Scholarship will be Awarded to any of the following: undergraduate junior (5th or 6th semester) taking 300 level courses  or senior (7th or 8th semester) taking 400 level courses

Kristen Pettijohn

Established in 2008 by friends, classmates, and family of Kristen Pettijohn in her memory and as a tribute to her passion for nursing, her interest in education, and her compassion for those in need of health care.

  • Interest in nursing education
  • Interest in becoming a faculty member to teach nursing students
  • Passionate about nursing
  • Exhibits compassion for those in need of health care

What leads you to believe you would be a great nurse, professor, and researcher at the same time, as many faculty are? Please also share why you are passionate about nursing and where your compassion for people in need of health care presents.


Lambert Family

Established in honor of Judy Lambert who received a master's degree in adult nursing at Indiana University in 1978 and who served as a valued member of the Indiana University School of Nursing faculty and a professional nurse for many years at the forefront of oncology nursing.

Criteria:

  • Graduate nursing student
  • Student pursuing master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner with an interest in oncology, if these students are not available then open to Clinical Nurse Specialist students with an interest in oncology
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher on 4.0 scale in master's program
  • Passionate about nursing
  • History of service to others
  • Preference interest in oncology

Leona Adam and Frances Orgain Nursing Scholarship (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1990 by Leona Adam, BSN '43, and Frances Orgain.

Lois Latshaw (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1999 by Lois Latshaw, Master of Nursing Education '62, to acknowledge the excellent nursing education she received at the School and to enable others to obtain an excellent nursing education.

Marcy Smith Critical Care Nursing (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1999 by David M. Smith and Mary Ann Smith in memory of their daughter Marcy Smith who died at age 37 and to honor the critical care nurses who served Marcy. Many of Marcy's classmates from Kokomo High School also contributed to the fund.

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing student

  • 1st preference graduate of Kokomo High School
  • 2nd preference any Howard County High School graduate
  • 3rd preference Miami or Tipton counties High School graduate

Margaret C. & Anne Marie Kuzmitz Scholarship (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established through a bequest to honor her sister, Margaret who was a nurse, Anne Marie wanted to assist students in need of financial asssistance who is pursuing a degree in nursing on any IU campus.

Criteria:

Mary Ellen Boyd

Established in 2009 by the friends, co-workers, and family of Mary Ellen Boyd who obtained a BSN in 1969 and an MSN in 1977 from IU School of Nursing and worked at the school as a clinical instructor. Mary Ellen was dedicated to the nursing profession and to professional excellence.

Michelle A. White (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1991 by the family and friends of Michelle A. White "in memory of the young woman whose special life touched them all."

  • Expressed interest in nursing research
  • Skilled in patient and clinical care areas

Additional Essay Required: Discuss your interest in nursing research and its root. What subjects in nursing are you most interested in doing research in? Also, what skills do you possess in patient and clinical areas? Student must provide a written recommendation from nursing clinical care faculty or research faculty.


Molly Ward Dreist Nursing Scholarship (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1996 by Daisy Hinkle Garton, a graduate of Indiana University 1932, in honor of Mollie Ward Greist, RN.

Monserrat Callangan-Mingus Nursing (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

Established in 1998 by Gregory Mingus and other family and friends in honor of his wife Monserrat Callangan-Mingus.

Nurse Practitioner Scholarship

This scholarship was created in 2013 to support MSN students in their final semester of a nurse practitioner track at IUSON; preference is given to those students who plan to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at IUSON.

Criteria:

  • Graduate nursing student
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Student in his or her final semester of one of the nurse practitioner tracks
  • Preference will be given to a student who wishes to pursue the School's Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (DNP)

Nursing 2000

Established by Nursing 2000 to recognize the organization's deadline to promote and support clinical and academic careers in nursing and to assist with the education of graduate students preparing to become qualified nursing faculty.

  • Graduate nursing student (full time or part time)
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • State of Indiana resident
  • Indicate commitment to work in the surrounding counties
  • Interest in nursing education

Applicant must write a statement including her/his interest in nursing education as well as future career plans and indicate commitment to work in the 11 surrounding counties (Bartholomew, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Lawerence, Marion, Monroe, Morgan or Shelby County).

PhD Leadership Fellowship

Established in 2010 by graduates of the IUSON who obtained the Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS degree upon the occasion in May 2010 when Indiana University recognized the DNS degree as equivalent to the PhD degree.  In appreciation and gratitude of how well the DNS degree prepared these, now PhD graduates, for successful careers in research, educatuion and/or practice this Fellowship  was created for future PhD students.

Criteria:

  • PhD nursing student admitted into the PhD program
  • IUPUI Campus only
  • Must demonstrate leadership in the discipline in education, research or practice

Additional Essay Required: 300 to 400 word essay to detail applicant's leadership in nursing profession at the state, regional and/or national level and speaks to their professional goals pertinent to future leadership contributions to nursing profession.

Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Nursing Education

Established in 2017

Criteria:

  • PhD nursing student or DNP student
  • IUPUI Campus only

Additional Essay Required: Essay on how you intend to assume a faculty position upon graduation or whose focus of study is developing or advancing the science of nursing education

RN Specialties, Inc & Elizabeth F. Dillon (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

As an Indiana based healthcare company, RN Specialties believes the IU School of Nursing serves an essential role in the community and is proud to create this scholarship to support the School's work along with the many students who are dedicating their lives to serving others.

Tyler Luke Mayse

Created in memory of Tyler Luke Mayse to honor the nurses who cared for Tyler and his sisters, Hannah and Kaitlyn, for their dedication, passion for their work and compassion for their patients and families.

  • Major as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with an interest in acute care

Virginia Maribee Myers Memorial Scholarship (Available for both undergraduate and graduate students.)

This scholarship has been established by the husband and children of Virginia, who was an IUSON Class of 1955 alumna. Virginia dedicated her life to the nursing profession, as well as nursing education and helping those in need. The scholarship is intended to assist undergraduate and graduate nursing students at the IUPUI campus who demonstrate financial need and are residents of Indiana.
