Programs
The School of Nursing sponsors several diversity and enrichment programs. The diversity programs—the Diversity Forum Series and the International Series—embrace multiculturalism and provide cultural enrichment to faculty, staff, and students throughout the academic year. Additionally, presentations are held annually, the Sequoia presentation focuses on transcultural teaching and learning experiences as they relate to students; and the Special Ambassador presentation focuses on exceptional contributions in the international area.

Davis-Sams Distinguished Visiting Professorship
Davis-Sams Distinguished Visiting professorship, named in honor of Anne Mitchem Davis and Dr. Lauranne Sams, provides an opportunity for a distinguished leader in nursing to visit the campus to make presentations and consult with faculty, doctoral students, and individuals within the larger community.

Sequoia Presentation
Each year, the Sequoia Award is presented to a faculty member who has demonstrated an effort to increase nursing students’ knowledge and understanding of the larger community we serve. (In some cases, there are multiple recipients.) It is a requirement that a special presentation is made the year following receipt.

Special Ambassador Presentation
The Special Ambassador Award is awarded to a faculty member who makes exceptional contributions to impact international students by facilitating their successful completion of the program.

Diversity Forum Series
The Diversity Forum Series explores health issues and pedagogical concerns of various populations.

International Series
The International Series provides faculty, staff, students, and alumni with opportunities to share information about international travel experiences, as they relate to teaching and learning.

Academic Support Assistant Program (ASAP)
The ASAP is a multisystem success program that is offered each semester to facilitate academic success of students. The program includes Self Tracking and Assessing to Succeed (STATS), empowerment sessions, reviews and tutorials.

  • STATS offers tools to assist in self tracking, assessment, measurement of success and need for improvement, as well as a case management and success coaching program.
  • Empowerment and Review Sessions
Empowerment and review sessions are offered to individuals or groups of students to facilitate an understanding of specific concepts and address factors that may hinder success such as test taking, time management and stress management.
  • Tutorials use peer tutors to assist students on an individual basis or in small groups.

Council Meetings
The Diversity & Enrichment Council is composed of administrators, faculty, students, staff, and alumni, as well as community partners. The group meets three times each academic year to discuss diversity as it relates to student recruitment, enrollment and retention, graduation and partnerships.
