Biosketch
Sandra is a clinical nurse specialist and educator whose graduate specialization is in child and adolescent psychiatric/mental health nursing. She has been certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing since the mid 1980s. Mrs. Wood has experience in outpatient and inpatient facilities providing individual, group and milieu therapy and education to children, adolescents and parents. She has taught parenting education and sexuality education and enjoys the opportunity to empower parents and students to recognize their skills. Sandra has taught baccalaureate and associate degree students in both didactic and clinical courses including basic psychiatric nursing, health care communications and undergraduate elective courses in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing for about half of her professional life. She has a special interest in assisting students to reach their full potential and to that end, provides sessions on improving test taking skills and maximizing student scholarship funding.
Sandra is a published author of book reviews, articles and textbook chapters. She has developed and presented group and individual tutorials to prepare nurses to take various American Nurses Credentialing Center certification exams. She has been involved in collecting data and presenting a small research study on stress with a group of elementary age school children. She has also been active throughout her nursing career in professional organizations holding regional and national committee membership and chairpersonships as well as being the regional president of two nursing professional organizations. Her scholarship and research interests include promoting student success and preventing mental health problems in children and families.
