Biosketch

Dr. Mary Beth Riner works in community health both locally and globally. Since 1998 she has taught courses that include international service-learning components in Latin America. As Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Healthy Cities and Communities, she engages in promoting inter-sectoral collaboration among community groups to address the causes of poor health, undertakes case study research to understand how communities collaborate to improve health, and works with other Centers to implement the programs of WHO and the Pan American Health Organization. Dr. Riner mentors public health professionals through a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention leadership institute and is former president of the Indiana Public Health Association.  Her teaching expertise is in problem-based learning which she used to co-develop a graduate community health nursing executive program. Dr. Riner has extensive experience in working with communities to conduct needs assessments and develop action plans to address priority concerns.
