Dr. Haase is internationally recognized for her research on ways children, adolescents, young adults, and families positively adjust to the experience of cancer and other chronic illnesses. In recognition of her program of research, Dr. Haase received the 2007 Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award by the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing. Her Adolescent Resilience Model (ARM) guides descriptive and intervention research to improve symptoms and psychosocial adjustment for adolescents and young adults with cancer. The ARM is currently being used in a multi-site study to evaluate a music therapy intervention for adolescents/young adults undergoing stem cell transplant and the ARM guides doctoral students and post-doctoral nurse scientists in the United States and other countries, such as Taiwan. Dr. Haase also recognized for her contributions to knowledge regarding mixed research methods and issues of triangulation of methods. As Co-Director of the T32 training grant in Behavioral Health and as an advisory board member of the R25 training grant in behavioral oncology, Dr. Haase provides leadership in research training and mentors pre- and post-doctoral fellows, many of whom have successfully received external funding for their own work. Dr. Haase was recipient of the 2008 Oncology Nursing Society Connie Henke Yarbro Excellence in Cancer Nursing Mentorship Award in recognition of these efforts.  Dr. Haase has served on several foundation and NIH research study sections, served as Chair of the American Cancer Society (ACS) Peer Review Panel for Scholarships and Doctoral Fellowships in Oncology Nursing and was recently appointed to the ACS Scientific Council.
