Biosketch

Well known for his work in nursing education and psychiatric mental health nursing, Dr. Pesut is recognized as a master teacher and has held academic and administrative positions in both the education and public service sector. His research is in the area of volitional psychosomatic self-regulation, clinical reasoning, future studies, and leadership development. He speaks on the topics of creative and complexity thinking, clinical nursing, and future studies. He is a certified specialist in adult psychiatric-mental health nursing. Current educational and research interests focus on the development and dissemination of the Outcome-Present-State-Test (OPT) model of clinical reasoning and complexity inspired solutions to problems in nursing and health care. The role of future studies in nursing education, practice, research, and policy development is also a professional interest. Dr. Pesut is principal author of Clinical Reasoning: The Art and Science of Critical and Creative Thinking (1999). He is an American Nurses Foundation scholar, a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, an honorary Fellow of the Amy V. Cockcroft Leadership Development Program, and served as President of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (2003-2005).
