Healthy Families Indiana Training & Technical Assistance Project (HFIT & TAP)

HFIT & TAP has delivered quality, supportive services to approximately 20,000 families across Indiana each year since 1994. Project activities include:

  • Training 900 Healthy Families Indiana home visitors and supervisors,
  • Providing technical assistance and quality assurance for 56 HFI sites, and
  • Monitoring HFI program activities and family outcomes with the Home Visit Tracking Information System (HVTIS).

All HFI sites are credentialed by Prevent Child Abuse America.

Educating the community

Additionally, HFIT & TAP works with the Indiana State Department of Child Services (DCS – Protecting Children) to monitor HFI services and to provide sites with innovative training and effective, evidence-based service models. HFIT & TAP has developed “Building Healthier Families,” a 12-module e-learning curriculum designed for home visitors who work with pregnant and parenting families. The curriculum is available on CD, and staff may take the courses at any time.

The project also coordinates evaluation and research studies for HFI sites. Since 2006, six HFI sites participate with the Building Strong Families project, an initiative to help interested unwed parents achieve a healthy marriage or maintain a positive relationship so they can provide a stable family life for their child.

Educating nursing students

HFIT & TAP affords opportunities for graduate students to engage in collaborative training and research activities that address the parenting support needs of Indiana communities.
